Best island to visit in Greece (Zakynthos)
When you think of Greece you might think of Santorini or Athens. Although they are stunning they come with heavy crowds and expenses that take it over the top. The crowds can be so dense that you cannot even walk. That’s why we chose to go to Zakythnos. Zakynthos is known for its intense blue water and cave. I will share best photography spots, Local food , Best beaches and more !
Navagio beach ( shipwreck beach)
Starting off strong with Shipwreck beach on the north west coast. One of the most stunning views I have ever seen. Dramatic limestone cliffs accompanied by electric blue water is an amazing backdrop for any photograph. From the parking area you will walk on the marked path for about 5 minutes until you reach the famous view. Once you reach the viewpoint you will find the well known shipwreck from the 1980s. During a storm a smugglers ship wrecked here fleeing the navy. After a while the ship became apart of the place. Making it one of the top photographed spots in all of Greece.
Keri Lighthouse view point
You can access this view without a hike. There is the Keri lighthouse restaurant with parking right outside the viewpoint, maybe a 2 minute walk. If you would like to eat at the restaurant with a view they do require reservations. The viewpoint shows the Mizithres sea stacks and overlooks the Ionion sea. We opted out of the restaurant but if you go there are great views while dining.
Cameo island
Located in Laguna bay you will find a small island known for the white hanging cloths and sea turtles. There is a small admission of 5 euros a person. The admission includes access to the whole island and beach. It also includes a souvenir keychain with a photo of you. The island can get packed so keep that in mind.
Zakynthos food
Our favorite restaurant for a quick bite was a cliffside family owned food spot called Mr.Rock. They serve everything from coffee, ice cream and gyros. From the tables you have a view of the cliffs and ocean. Mr. Rock is very affordable especially compared to the tourist spots. They also have high quality ingredients.
Pirounaki Traditional tavern
If you are looking for a more traditional dinner that will leave a lasting impression look no further than this tavern. There is an option for inside and outside dining. I reccomend the outside area because you are surrounded by grape vineyards and olive trees. Live greek music fills the air towards the end of the night and you can feel the traditions around you. The restaurant style is a set menu of Greek cuisine with a fixed price . You can also have wine made from the vineyards that are harvested right next to you.
Potamitis Windmills, staircase and blue caves
You can enjoy three attractions in one spot. You will park and walk up to view the famous windmill. Shortly after you will see the 225 step staircase leading down to the turquoise water. Make sure to snap a shot on these stairs, they are beautiful! After a steep walk down you can free dive from the ladders provided.
Tip: Instead of paying for the boat tour you can swim a short distance to reach the blue caves for free.
Porto Limnionas
The jagged white cliffs enclose the blue cold water. A Free parking lot sits on the top with about a 10 minute walk down. There is a restaurant and sun bed rentals for reservation. You can bring kayaks and snorkeling gear to explore. We spent all day here soaking up the sun. There is also cliff jumping for the adrenaline junkies.
I hope you enjoy Zakynthos and all of our spots we reccomend. Please share you expierence with us through any of our socials!
