The Best Camera For Travel Photography

Canon Rebel 2000

We have been traveling full time for four years. We’ve  had to lug around gear through mountain terrain, busy cities, airports, you name it! With love for film and digital, it was an easy choice, we had to get both. For the reason being I love videography, but my heart is film. If you love the film videography look and can afford it, you could opt for a 16mm or Super 8, but that wasn’t an option for us. I wanted something I could take great photos and video, a multipurpose camera without giving anything up.

What to look for in your camera and questions you should ask yourself.

  1. Is this camera for videography and  photography  or both?

  2. Am I planning to use this camera for professional use or pleasure?

  3. Do I care about the Film or Digital look?

  4. What is my budget?

  5. Does my gear need to be waterproof?

These are questions I asked myself before purchasing my top choice. For me, I really needed video and professional gear since we work with editorial and brands.

I will list my top choices, starting off with my camera picks.

My top choice

Canon R6 Mark ii

The canon r6 Mark ii is:

Exceptional in low light situations

Amazing stablilization for rocky movements (like hiking)

40 fps and 4k 60p video.

versatile for street or landscape

professional grade photography and Netflix approved video.

Basically a two in one camera

The Canon rebel 2000 is:

Gopro for underwater

I personally have the Hero 11 and love it!

Reasons I love my Gopro Hero 11:

has a large sensor and can take 27mp photos

Video is amazing at 5.3k60 ( People asked if this was my main camera in a housing but it was just my Go pro!)

10 bit color with over a billion hues!

(These are actually screenshots from my videos! You can find these on TikTok at Sightchaser. )

I have explored many coastlines, rugged trails , and big cities with my 3 cameras and it hasn’t disappointed. The only thing I will complain about is sometimes my canon r6 can get heavy especially if you get bigger lenses. but I really needed proffesinal grade photo and video. So to me it is worth it rather than carrying two cameras around.

I will also say that my videos are color graded and photos are edited in Lightroom. Everyone will have their own flow and look. These aren’t right out of the camera but you can achieve these looks with all of these cameras.
